The Old North Church

As I log off from another hour spent exploring the Commonwealth in Fallout 4 and now sit watching Nicolas Cage go crazy trying to steal the Declaration of Independence, I reminisce about a recent trip to the heart of the American revolution. Boston is a nest of history, full of sights and stories. A visitor’s camera could wear out attempting to document everything the city has to show. For those fascinated with history, however, the Old North Church is a celebrity.

In 1775, Paul Revere wanted a signal placed in the church’s steeple in case he was unable to complete his famous journey. One lantern signaled British troops were approaching by land. Two lanterns meant the troops came by sea. The British troops had deeper intent than just showing up, obviously, and you probably know the story courtesy of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Beware, however, as you supposedly cannot believe everything you hear about Mr. Revere. The official history is more complex than one man’s historic ride.

The Old North Church remains a photogenic sight today. When you take a moment to consider its role in history, the church becomes breathtaking.
