I’m old, man. I feel the decrepitude of an aging body in my joints and in the tardiness of my reactions. There’s a perpetual fog that rests over my mind. And yet, I’m a child of an ascendant video game era. Mario captured my imagination. Link made me feel heroic. Master Chief ruled the LAN. I grew up with video games, and they have forever been a fiber of my being. Alas, time does nothing but take. My old man reflexes cannot keep up with younger players whose twitch reactions defy my comprehension of speed and accuracy. While I adopted a world of video games, subsequent generations were born in it, developing skills they so easily take for granted.
All that said, I still love me some first-person shooters. Battlefield 6 is my current pew-pew fixation, and long has the series created fond memories. While Battlefield 6 is not the game I recall from many Christmases ago, playing with my brother until the wee hours of the morning, I still find the game provides an intoxicating mix of sound, action, and intensity, and despite getting out-aimed by overly caffeinated PC players, I can hold my own and have fun. This post is where I will document some of my travails on the digital battleground, be it the good, the bad, and the downright sad. If you play Battlefield 6 or have wistful memories of the series, share your experiences here, so that we may collectively fight the good fight of keeping games fun, no matter our stage in life.
Fighting for nostalgic survival in BF6 – Season 3 Part 1
As season 3 kicks off, we continue focusing on completing recon and assault class challenges while experiencing the new map, Railway to Galmud, and how DICE’s gameplay changes affect the experience.
BF6 Working on Recon challenges
Season 3 has kicked off, but this is a callback to gameplay of my slog through the Recon class challenges. I’m making progress, but the challenges are proving, ahem, challenging.
BF6 Working on Assault and Recon Challenges
This is season 2 gameplay of working through Battlefield class challenges for Assault and Recon. There are some definite gameplay struggles as I adapt to new weapons, attachments, and ways of playing.
BF6 Trying Out Railway to Golmud
Season 3 is live with a new map! Yay, a single new map! Railway to Golmud is a massive map that is made for vehicular warfare. If you’re intent on playing infantry, pick a location and hold it down…and keep an eye out for tanks.
