If film’s Mount Rushmore had room for 100, it could consist of the AFI Top 100 Greatest American Films of All Time. At least, I assume it could, right? The American Film Institute is the expert, so I’m sure they would know. I haven’t seen all the movies on the list and can’t pass proper judgment.
But wait, what’s this? The list was last updated in 2007?! AFI has missed out on over a decade of cinema?! Something feels amiss; I better check it out for myself. This is going to require thorough research, dedication, and neglected relationships. Starting at 100 and watching down to numero uno, I am going to watch them all…hopefully in 2019…hopefully in this lifetime. Ben-Hur is number 100 and first up. By the end, I’ll determine if there are any posers on the list or glaring omissions from 2007 through the end of 2018, a task that could require some serious catch-up viewing as well. This is my Everest. This is my burden of dedicated (not really) movie critiquing (really just watching and seeing how I enjoyed the film).
See you on Saturday.
